Surge Protection

Power surges can happen unexpectedly and in any moment. They may be caused by a wide array of factors including faulty appliances, storms, and abrupt voltage fluctuations onto a circuit, and supply flaws from the electricity provider. Thinking about the intricate nature of modern electronic wiring, even the slightest power surge may cause irreparable harm to these electric systems.

Although lightning is most frequently associated with power surges, in actual fact only 2% of electricity surges are brought on by lightning strikes. The root of electricity surges are more likely due to disturbance in the power flow which is later restarted, or when something causes electricity to flow back into the system, for instance, a lightning attack. Of all the power surges experienced homes it is projected that more than half are brought on by high voltage equipment or compressors cutting in and out of their electric system. How does a surge protector work?

The live cable or primary power line at a surge protector contains an extra linked connection that feeds into an earth wire. An earth cable’s purpose would be to direct any extra current safely to the ground. The surge link in the shield stays inactive until a bigger than normal voltage appears. This excess current is then securely redirected through the excess earth wire, directly into the floor. This prevents more current than ordinary from flowing to your appliances effectively ensuring that they are protected from any injury that can be caused by power surges.
