The live cable or main power line in a surge protector contains an additional linked connection that feeds to an earth wire. An earth cable’s purpose is to direct any extra current safely to the floor. The surge connection in the protector remains inactive until a bigger than normal voltage appears. This extra current is then safely diverted through the extra earth wire, directly into the ground. This prevents more current than normal from flowing to your appliances effectively ensuring that they are protected from any injury that can result from power surges.
